The history of Somalia traces back to Islamic merchants in East Africa in 9000 BC, the people are culturally nomadic and politically are deeply fractured by civil war and clan divisions. Earlier historians recorded the history in Arabic and the colonial language(s) Italian and English and the rest is oral for this, information about Somalia culture in text or electronic form is limited. However, recent influx of refugees from Somalia to western countries created great interest among service providers especially; the medical profession to understand Somalis and their culture to better serve them and started to pull together much information about the people and their approach to health and healing.
